Returning to work after a serious injury or illness, whether physical, cognitive or mental health related, can be a tough journey. Setting achievable goals and planning for a durable return to any workplace requires a clear understanding of the client’s strengths and any limitations as well as the demands of the job. Collaboration between the client, their healthcare team, case manager and employer, is critical in development of a rehabilitation plan that will result in a sustainable return to work. Suitable ergonomic accommodations, duty modifications, coaching and a realistic maintenance program are all part of a successful return to work progression.
