Our Story

Founded in 1990, Access Community Therapists began with a mission to help adults with developmental disabilities transition from institutions into safe, healthy homes. Our first partnerships with health authorities focused on wheelchair seating, mobility, and dysphagia services—relationships that continue today.

Over the years, we’ve grown to offer occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and specialized nursing, with an interdisciplinary team delivering high-quality care. Many clinicians have been with us for decades, a reflection of the supportive, engaging workplace we cultivate at Access.

While our services have grown, our mission remains unchanged: providing meaningful, individualized support to help clients achieve their goals.

Our Vision

To continue leading in complex rehabilitation by combining clinical excellence, mentorship, and collaboration with funders, healthcare partners, and communities. We aim to be known as the team you can trust: for clients, for colleagues, and for the future of the profession.

Our Mission

Access is rooted in community-based healthcare and a strong culture of excellence, mentorship, and trust. Our mission is to deliver exceptional, evidence-informed rehabilitation that empowers individuals of all abilities to achieve outcomes meaningful to them, and fully engage in their daily lives, roles, and communities. As a trusted partner, leader, and educator in community rehabilitation across British Columbia and beyond, we are committed to advancing clinical practice and providing collaborative, person-centred care.

Through strong partnerships with health authorities, third-party insurers and other funding agencies, and by investing in the growth and development of our clinicians, we foster innovation, inclusion, and clinical excellence. We provide reliable, compassionate services that create lasting impact for the individuals, families, and communities we serve.

Education & Training

Beyond direct client care, Access Community Therapists shares our expertise with the broader rehabilitation community. We thoughtfully design and deliver hands-on workshops focused on wheelchair seating, dysphagia, pressure management, and wound care.

We are strongly engaged in occupational therapy education at the University of British Columbia and rehabilitation assistant education at the Capilano University, offering student placements and instruction across multiple practice areas. Through clinical education and post-secondary teaching, we are committed to advancing practice and strengthening clinician capacity to support meaningful client outcomes.
